Europa League: Manchester United Near Last-8 Qualification After big Win Against LASK

Manchester United have made a huge move towards making it through to the Europa League quarter-finals after thrashing LASK a humiliating 5-0 defeat in the last-16 first-leg tie with Odion Ighalo kicking off the streak.

The game was played in closed-doors yet United controlled it from the start and after a couple of missed attempts, the Nigerian international, Ighalo, smashed home a brilliant volley from Bruno Fernandes' cross and put the side in the lead. The former Shanghai Shenhua forward has now extended his goal tally to four in three starts for United.

LASK held down the score until after the break, then comes Ighalo again with a through pass to Daniel James to smack home for the second goal from inside the box. Ighalo nearly made it a third for United three minutes later but the ball clipped the pole.

There was stopping of United from getting goals by the sloppy Austrian side, and Juan Mata added the third from Fred's assist. The remaining two goals came in added minutes as Mason Mount and Andreas Pereira scored the fourth and fifth respectively with two minutes.

Bruno Fernandes created the chance for Odion Ighalo t score the opening goal

The Austrians could have suffered a much bigger humiliating defeat as there were a couple of chances not converted by United from the start of the game. Juan Mata and Harry Maguire had good chances missed besides that of Ighalo that clipped the bar.

Fernandes continued to prove himself as a good buy for United by give necessary assists that lead to goal scoring and helping in tidying up the side's midfield. There has been some sort of improvement ever since his signing in January and United have remained unbeaten in 11 games in all competitions.

Today's victory happened to be United's biggest win since 2013 against Bayer Leverkusen and also the biggest recorded under Ole Gunnar Solksjaer since his appointment.
