England Team Doctor Steps Down Over Mo Farah's Doping Controversy

Rob Chakraverty, the doctor in the centre of Mo Farah's supplement controversy, has resigned from his role at the FA as its senior men's team medical officer.

Chakraverty's resignation is following the controversy over Mo Farah being injected with an approved substance, L-Carnitine, above legal quantity ahead of the 2014 London Marathon. At this time, Chakraverty serving as a medical officer with the UK Athletics.

The illegal procedure performed on the four-time Olympic medallist got him in hot water and the FA was already considering replacing him before he decided to step down from his role.

"The time is now right to step away from this role and seek new challenges," said Chakraverty. "I would like to thank my colleagues and the players for their support and wish them every success in achieving their goals in the tournaments to come."

Chakraverty, in effect, ended his three-year reign at the FA. He was part of the medical team that led the England national team to the semi-finals of the 2018 Fifa World Cup in Russia.

The FA also revealed his replacement will be announced after consulting with the national team's head coach Gareth Southgate and will be unveiled after the Covid-19 virus outbreak has come under control.
