Barcelona Agree 70 Percent Wages Cut With Players


Barcelona players will be taking a 70 percent pay cut in this period of Covid-19 pandemic as their way of helping the club cope with wages payment of non-footballing staff.

Juventus have also announced wages cut for their players and the coaching crew which will help boost the club's financial report for 2019/2020 season by £90 million. The pay cuts for the Italians will last through four months before it will be reverse and all affected persons in the senior team will be compensated according to the club's statement.

How long Barca's pay cut will last was not revealed but the club's leading striker Lionel Messi slammed the club's hierarchies for taking too long to make the announcement after they had worked out modalities with the team.

The cut is expected to affect the senior team only and will without a doubt save the club a lot of revenue which will, in effect, boost the financial report for the year just like their Italian counterparts.

"Much has been written and said about the Barcelona first team in regards to the salaries of the players during this period of State of Alarm," wrote the Argentine on Instagram.

The six-time Ballon d'Or winner clarified that its the team's desire to help the club by donating a huge portion of their salary which is what they have always been doing whenever required.

"First of all, we want to clarify that our will has always been to apply a drop in the salary we receive," he added, "Because we fully understand that this is an exceptional situation and we are the first ones who have ALWAYS helped the club when asked."
