Rotterdam Open: Gael Monfils Beats Felix Auger Aliassime To Defend Title Back-To-Back
Defending champion Gael Monfils has emerged as the winner of the ABN AMRO World Tennis Tournament for the second time in a row after beating Felix Auger Aliassime in the final.
The Frenchman became the second player after Robin Soderling since 2011 to win the title back-to-back and it took him straight sets, 6-2 6-4, win over the Canadian player, Felix, converting four break point advantages en route the victory.
Felix, who was in a quest for his first career title, was swept aside by the two-time champion after an early 1-2 lead in the first set by winning five straight games. The teenager, 19, attempted to rally in the second set but was served out by the Frenchman to clinch his tenth career title.
Victory in Rotterdam happened to be Monfils' second straight title wins of the season. Just last weekend, he picked up his first title of the season at Montpellier Open, which he won for the third time after beating Canadian player, Vasek Pospisil, in straight sets, 7-5, 6-3.
