Roger Federer Addresses Retirement Rumours
As against anticipations that Roger Federer might be hanging up his racquet sometimes in this season, the world number three has come out to dismiss any intents to call it quits, and that he, for now, has set no dates for anything like that.
Federer is hosting Microsoft founder Bill Gates as his team player at the fundraising competition for his charity organization The Roger Federer Foundation in South Africa where his mother Lynette was born. The proceed from the event is intended to be used to help educate children in Africa.
Speaking about retiring from the sport, the 20-time Grand Slam winner revealed he still enjoys playing and can do that even at the "highest level" of the sport. Thus, that means retirement is not in view any time soon.
"No updates on retirement or any plans to stop playing," said Federer. "I feel I can still compete at the highest level, which I feel I did again in Australia. I am happy to keep on playing. You never know, but at the moment I have no plans for any retirement and all that."
The Swede was eliminated in the semi-final of the Australian Open by Novak Djokovic in three sets, 7-6(1) 6-4 6-3. Last year, he lost the quest to win the Wimbledon to the Serb who fought back and denied Federer a championship point in a tiebreak and rallied to win in a five-setter final, 7-6 1-6 7-6 6-4 13-12.
