Premier League: Manchester United Beat Chelsea At Home Amidst VAR Controversy
Chelsea might have something against the VAR for their controversial 2-0 loss to Manchester United at Stanford Bridge but the victory lifted Red Devils to the seventh position with three points away from the top-four.
The defeat left Chelsea totally down for two VAR rulings that are believed to be against them. First was Harry Maguire's tackle on Michy Batshuayi outside the touchline and the other was the ruling out of Kurt Kouma's goal that could have leveled the scoring 1-1 for Blues. Unfortunately for the hosts, Cesar Azpilicueta had committed a foul offense on Brandon William before he struck in a header.
Besides Kouma's canceled goal, Batshuayi wasted a scoring chance that could have put Blues ahead in the first half but kicked Mason Mount's cross just inches wide. Anthony Martial seized a goalscoring moment for United and headed home Aaron Wan-Bissaka's cross on the brink of half time.
Maguire did not bag a red card for his tackle on Batshuayi in the first half and sealed the victory for United from newly-signed Bruno Fernandes' cross just minutes after an hour of play.
Chelsea's lead striker Tammy Abraham was on the bench throughout the game and his replacement Batshuayi failed to convert to chances that could have brought the team back into the game. The fans were not very happy with him. Nevertheless, the disappointment about the loss for some could the VAR rulings.
