Premier League: Man. City Meet Their Waterloo At Tottenham Hotspurs
At this point, Manchester City could not in their sweetest dreams, hope they can close the gap with Liverpool for their disappointing outing at White Hart Lane where they lost by 2-0 to Tottenham Hotspurs.
On the other hand, Jose Mourinho's hope of making the top-four of the table was revamped by the victory as Spurs jumped to the fifth position and dropping Sheffield United and Manchester United a place down the table respectively to trail Chelsea by four points.
As any anyone would expect, City had a better share of the game possession but had to play a 10-man team from an hour into the game to the full time as Oleksandr Zinchenko bagged a red-card for a second yellow card offense.
City were meant to have had a goal earlier than Spurs and that was meant to have happened in the first half but Ilkay Gundogan's penalty was saved by Hogo Lloris. Newly-signed Steven Bergwijn from PSV Eindhoven ended the deadlock just after Zinchenko was sent off.
The Dutch striker chested down a passed from Lucas Moura inside the box and volleyed home a right-footed shot for the opening goal. Tanguy Ndombele set off Son Heung-min for the finish that doubled the lead for Spurs in the 71st minute.
Bergwijn was signed to Spurs in a £27 million contract that will last for five years from the Dutch side Wednesday and he wasted no time to prove his competence in the attack. As already known, the team's arch-striker Harry Kane will be out for nearly the rest of the season for an injury.
