Premier League: Liverpool Extend Home Winning Streak To Record Feat After Beating Southampton

Liverpool claimed a big 4-0 win against Southampton which was a record-equalling for them as the tied with the previous record of 20 consecutive home league games wins set by them since 1972.

Mohamed Salah led the scoring for the league leaders with two goal and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain opened the scoring for his second goal of he season whilst Sadio Mane was ruled out of the game for an injury.

Saints held their hosts to a goalless first half but that changed soon after the break when Oxlade-Chamberlain broke the deadlock with the opener in the 47th minute.

Alex McCarthy stopped a goal attempt from Virgil van Dijk

Roberto Firmino set up Herdenson with an assist for a finish to make it a second right on the hour. Then Henderson followed up with a through ball to Salah and the Egyptian ran with it into the box and tipped it over to beat McCarthy for the third  goal.

Salah intended that Henderson scored the fourth goal with a pass but McCarthy blocked his shot and the ball found it way back to him for a rebound and he poked it into the net.

"We just look to use our skills in the best possible way," said Jurgen Klopp. "The boys have done that for a while pretty good and that's why we have these number. We didn't want a 22-point lead. We wanted 73 points."

Salah extended his home goal scoring streak to 12 for the biggest for any players in the side. In the other hands, the defeat was Saints biggest loss since 2018 against Manchester City.
