Formula One: Chinese Grand Prix Postponed Over Fear Of Coronavirus
The organizers of the Chinese Grand Prix have announced the postponement of this season's race over the outbreak of coronavirus in the country.
Chinese city Wahum is the epicenter of the outbreak with well over 1000 casualties recorded and thousands of victims quarantined in an effort to curtail the spread of the contagious disease.
The measure was taken to "ensure the health and safety" of drivers, their teams and spectators according to a statement released by the organizers.
"The FIA F1 community looks forward to racing in China as soon as possible," the organizers announced in a statement.
Lewis Hamilton won the race in Shanghai International Circuit last season followed by his teammate Valterri Bottas in second place in a one-two finish for Mercedes. Sebastian Vettel took third place for a podium position.
No new date has been announced but the organizer assured every stakeholder and fans that they "leave open the opportunity to see if the race later in the year."
