Champions League: Tottenham Get Knockdown By RB Leipzig In Home Defeat
Tottenham received a hard knockdown for losing at home 1-0 to RB Leipzig, setting them off for a tough second leg match of the last 16 when they travel to face the Germans at home.
It could not be said that Leipzig was lucky not to have Spurs' forward Heung-min Son on the pitch as the Japanese joined Harry Kane on the bench with a broken arm. To that effect, Spurs had to change the tactics and played a 4-4-2 formation.
The game could have gone through goalless at its best but a needless tackle from Ben Davies after the interval handed the Germans penalty that Timo Werner converted to end the deadlock for a 1-0 lead. The margin could have been wider just two minutes later but Hugo Lloris was well-positioned to save Patrik Schick's shot from close range.
Spurs did have a couple chances and the closest was Giovani Lo Celso's free-kick and that could not get through as goalkeeper Peter Gulasci palmed it to clip the post before bouncing off to safety.
"I'm not worried with the 1-0 we can go there and win," Jose Mourinho said expressing his confidence in his team. "What worries me is that these are our players for the next however many matches."
If there was a player that was spectacular throughout the game, it could only be Lloris as the Spurs' keeper denied the Germans a couple of scoring chances that could have made their day even worse.
