Barcelona Sign Leganes' Forward Martin Braithwaite Outside Transfer Window

Injury-ravaged Barcelona has made a desperate signing of a Leganes' forward Martin Braithwaite to a contract that will run until 2024.

It is understood that the Denmark player's team's director-general, Martin Ortega, is not that pleased with the signing of the striker but Barca had triggered his released clause of £15 million. He is desperately needed to make up Ousmane Dembele who is out for a hamstring injury.

"We can not understand the current regulation that a club, having a long-term, can perform this operation unilaterally and transfer their problem to our club," Ortega argued.

In spite of the discrepancies over the timing of the player's move to Nou Camp, the Spaniards could do so because of the special approval given to them by La Liga. However, the 28-year-old can only play in league games and not in the Champions League which already have names of players to make appearances in the knockout stages.

Braithwaite has only spent a calendar year at the club he joined from Middlesbrough in January 2019 and has a buyout clause of £250 million set in his contract with Barcelona.
