Sadio Mane Named Caf African Player of the Year
Senegal and Liverpool's forward Sadio Mane has been crowned as the Confederation of African Football Player of the Year. He succeeded his teammate Mohamed Salah who was the titleholder until Tuesday.
The 27-year-old emerged as the winner after gaining most votes to beat other contenders, teammate Mohamed Salah and Manchester City's Algerian midfielder Riyad Mahrez.
"I'm really happy and proud to win this. Football is my job, I love it," he said on receiving the prize. "I would like to thank my family, my national team, staff, the federation, and Liverpool Football Club. It's a big day for me."
As Liverpool are off on the cruise to their first Premier League title victory with a massive lead in the table, the Senegalese leads in the side's biggest goalscorers of 2019/20 season with eleven league goals.
