James Bond Producer Wants 007 To "Remain Male" Character

As against expectations that a female character will be cast as 007, the James Bond film's producer has ruled out any chances of the role being played by a woman, rather wanted the character to remain a male character as the film has always had it.

As Daniel Craig will be reprising the role as the 007 for the last time in the upcoming 25th installment 'No Time To Die', there are propositions that the role should be given to a woman. In fact, in the new film set for release in April, Lashana Lynch will be taking over the role of 007 from Craig when he left active service in the film. She is not the new James Bond though.

The film producer, Barbara Broccoli told Variety during an interview that instead of starring a female character in the James Bond role, what should be done is making "new characters" in the franchise that will be for women.

"James Bond can be of any colour, but he is male," she said. "I believe we should be creating new characters for women - strong female characters."

Barbara clarified that left to her, she is not of the opinion of "taking a male character" out of the role for a woman to be starred because women are "more interesting" than playing the 007.

Aside from having a woman play as the new James Bond, Idris Elba was once linked to replace Craig as the new 007 but the Dark Tower actor dismissed having any interest in the role. However, Bohemian Rhapsody actor Rami Malek will be cast as the villain in the oncoming film.
