Fernandinho To Extend Contract With Manchester City
Apparently, Fernandinho will not be leaving Manchester City in summer City as initially teased by his teammate Riyad Mahrez during a Q and A in December.
Contrary to expectations, the Brazilian will reportedly be staying at Etihad for another season as he will be offered to extend his contract at the club. The 34-year-old moved to Etihad from the Ukrainian side Shakhtar Donetsk since 2013 but the decision to stay depends on his desire.
"He does not have to convince me to stay longer, he convinced me on day one three years ago," Pep Guardiola said. "He doesn't need to do anything special. It's just his age, his desire and how he is going to feel with many things."
Fernandinho has enjoyed a trophy-laden spell at City where he has won with the team three Premier League titles, four EFL Cups and the only FA Cup in 2018 when they won a domestic treble that was first of its kind in English football.
Guardiola also added in praise of the defensive midfielder that, "He is one of the greatest players that this club has had in its entire history."
