EFL Carabao Cup: Man. City To Face Aston Villa In Final Despite Losing 1-0 To Man. United
Manchester United claimed a worthless 1-0 win against Manchester City only to be eliminated on an aggregate of 3-2 as the Pep Guardiola side progressed to final to face Aston Villa in defense of the trophy the won last season.
City had already secured a comfortable lead of 3-1 from the first leg tie of the semi-final match against United and tonight's goal margin in the second-leg tie could not make a difference Red Devils.
United's goalscorer Nemanja Matic bagged a red-card offense in the second half but was brilliant by the way he scored the only goal of the game for United following Fred's free-kick which Riyad Mahrez headed to his reach in the box and lashed it right into the net.
Sergio Aguero had first come close to putting City ahead with a header from Ilkay Gundogan's cross but David De Gea was just rightly positioned and palmed into safety for Harry Maguire to clear away.
Raheem Sterling wasted an open opportunity to give City an equalizer and when Aguero did he was caught in an offside position and his goal was ruled out.
"We played a side with incredible physicality," said Pep Guardiola. "The first time they shot on target. In both games, we were better. I am so satisfied with the players, and the way they play with the problems in the back four."
Making a final appearance will be City's third consecutive time in a row and potentially the first title in their reach this season as they technically are not in the race for a Premier League title win this season.
