Court Rules Michael Jackson's Sex Abuse Accuser Can Sue
The sex abuse lawsuit against late pop singer Michael Jackson has taken a new turn as a California court ruled that the victims can sue the singer.
Wade Robson and James Safechuck alleged the 'Billie Jean' singer dated them as a child at age 10 and subjected them to series of abuse as a child. They have previously filed a lawsuit against the artist who they claimed befriended them but had the suit thrown out of court.
Michael, who died in 2009, aged 50, had for many times before his death been dragged to court for accusations relating to sexual abuse and won all the case. Now that he is passed away, new revelations have cropped up and a docuseries of the allegations 'Leaving Neverland' starred Wade and James.
"We are pleased that the court has recognised the strong protections California has put into place for sexual abuse victims under the state's new law extending the statute of limitations,' the victims' lawyer said in a statement.
The court ruled on Friday as against the lower court previous ruling that turned down the suit because a sexual abuse victim could only file a lawsuit before they turn 26-year-old. On January 1st, a new law was made that extended the limits to 40one-year-old.
Jackson's estate maintained their stance against the allegations and described it as attempt to assassinate the late singer's character while he is already dead.
