Australian Open: Roger Federer Survives John Millman's Scare To Reach Fourth Round

Roger Federer edged through a tough match against John Millman to reach the fourth round of the competition. Both players slugged it out for four hours three minutes that witnessed two tiebreaks before the Swede emerged as the victor.

The world number three started out by dropping the opener but claimed his 100th singles wins in Melbourne after winning six straight match points in the fifth set in a tiebreak to outclass Millman by 4-6, 7-6(2), 6-4, 4-6, 10-8.

Winning the match did not come easy for the Swede who also admitted to it afterward as he said that coming out victorious in a match like today's obvious would give anyone "a lot of confidence". No doubts, that was true against the Australian who defeated him in their last meeting at the US Open in the round of 16 after playing through four sets, 3-6, 7-5, 7-6, 7-6.

"He's got good speed on the backhand and on the forehand," Federer commended his opponent. "I was not returning poorly. I was just not getting into those neutral rallies, finding the ways to unlock him. That's his credit. He's a great player."

Federer will face in the next match Hungarian player Marton Fucsovics in his quest for record-level seventh Grand Slam title in Melbourne that will level his with the all-time biggest winner, Novak Djokovic, who leads the competition with seven titles.
