Australian Open: Novak Djokovic, Roger Federer Ease Through To Third Round


Novak Djokovic had no hassle making it through to the third round of the Australian Open likewise Roger Federer as they both swept through sets to claim victory against their opponents. 

The defending champion, Djokovic, comfortably thrashed Japanese Tatsumo Ito in three sets, 6-1, 6-4, 6-2, without facing any breakpoint while he won five-in-nine break advantages. Federer, in later draws, clinically eliminated Filip Krajinovic in straight sets, 6-1, 6-4, 6-1. 

Djokovic marked his 900th career win in his first-round match against Jan-Lennard Struff on Monday during which he dropped a set for the first time at the competition since 2006. 

"My serve was working extremely well in the first and second round. That's something I worked on in the off-season," said Djokovic who helped Serbia win the Inaugural ATP Cup. 

Presently, the 32-year-old leads in all-time biggest title in Melbourne with seven whilst Federer followed in amongst elite players with six titles. Rafael Nadal has only won the title once in five final appearances. 

He went on to narrate how he has been able to brush up on his skills during the long break, saying: "One of the priorities of the training sessions is trying to get that advantage of winning a lot of easy points on the first serve."
