UFC 245: Kamaru Usman Defends Title In Fourth Round Defeat Of Colby Covington

Kamaru Usman had his title up against challenger Colby Covington on a decisive day for the welterweight championship belt at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. The Nigerian-American did not fall short of expectations and retained his title leaving California-native with a bloodied face at the end.

There was no takedown neither was there much of wrestling as they both engaged in an exchange of fist fight throughout. Eventually, Kamaru outlasted his challenger by 16-1-0 against 15-2-0.

Covington was doing really good in the first and second-round, getting shots landing on the title defender and doing him serious damages. Unfortunately for him, being experienced would come to play for Kamaru in the third round when things began to turn around for him and Covington was inflicted on with a serious injury when Kamaru landed a right-handed punch on his jaw.

Returning from the break for the fourth-round, the California-native had suffered a broken jaw from the well-landed left hook by Kamaru leaving with a bloodied mouth. Covington managed to hold on in the fourth but late into the round, Kamaru began to land more hooks such that he staggered and fell.

No doubt, Covington was a good fighter and could still get Kamaru with a well-aimed jab that left him with a swollen face. Apparently, Covington could not hold on any more neither could he get his balance right with Kamaru flooding his face with punching and forced him to succumb whilst trapped on the floor.

Speaking after the fight, Kamaru admitted it was a tough fight and had no knowledge of Covington's slack-jaw. Narrating how it went down he said, "No, I wasn't. I was catching him with left hooks, but I was kind of overreaching. I made a lot of mistakes tonight. My coaches told me to settle down and work behind the jab."

Ahead of the fight, they have both traded insults and expressed their dislike for each other and Covington was confident that he was going to stun Kamaru - a mission he, in the end, could not accomplish against the titleholder.
