Premier League: Manchester City Title Race Gets Fair Boost With Win Over Leicester City

Manchester City's title race got a little boost with a 3-1 victory over Leicester City and close the gap on Foxes by just a point deficit and eleven points from runaway leaders, Liverpool.

James Vardy did justice to Harvey Barnes' through pass to give Leicester the opening goal but the English player rendered less relevant by City who went on to get two goals in the first half and a decider in the second half by Gabriel Jesus.

Riyadh Mazreh dribbled into the box and finished with a low cut effort that deflected on Soyoncu to the goal for City's equalizer and Ilkay Gundogan converted penalty drawn by Mahrez late in the first half for City's second goal.

Leicester had a fair possession of the game in the first half but were dominated over by the title defenders in the second half with Vardy impact in the pitch already reduced. The dominance paid off eventually with Gabriel Jesus sliding to tap in the post a through ball from Kevin de Bruyne.

Raheem Sterling was subbed for Sergio Aguero in the added minutes.

Leicester had a couple of chances before break when they steamed up pressure against City at 2-1 on board and a chance came their way from Vardy's cross but Barnes could not finish it off.

However, Foxes might not stand a chance in title as they will be facing Liverpool on Boxing Day. But one thing remain certain for now unless a couple pick up injury, and that finishing in top four. Possibly, they will be back in the UEFA Champions League competition if their performance did not slide down the table after Christmas.

Back to City, Kevin de Bruyne was City's man of the match if not to both side but he becomes the first player to record double assists before Christmas in a single season since 2015 when Mesut Ozil did for Arsenal.
