Premier League: Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang Rescues Point For Arsenal On Freddie Ljungberg's Debut

Freddie Ljungberg might have hoped for the very best on his debut match as Arsenal interim head coach but only to be rescued by Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang to get a point off Norwich City.

Unai Emery was sacked after the team lost 2-1 to Eintracht Frankfurt in the Europa League to winless in seven consecutive games on Thursday, yet they could not get maximum points of struggling Norwich as the game ended in a 2-2 draw.

The first half of the game witnessed the Canaries in the lead with an opener from Teemu Pukki followed a doubler from Todd Caldwell. Sandwiched in-between was Aubameyang's penalty that pulled a goal back for Arsenal.

After the break, Gunners' captain rescued the interim manager from an unhappy debut and finished off a loose ball from a mix-up in the box following a corner just before an hour of play. The scores stayed even through to the full-time whistle.

Freddie Ljungberg's take on his team performance was that the team is "on the transition" and despite their fair domination of the game the struggling Norwich yet breaks them "too easily".

Meanwhile, it would not have been a draw if not for the VAR that ruled out Aubameyang's first penalty attempt that was brilliantly saved by Tim Krul. Kenny McLean nearly sent Arsenal back to London in defeat after breaking off into the box to punish David Luiz for poor defensive play but goalkeeper Leno got his hand to his shot and clipped the post to bounce off into safety.

They have failed to win a league game in six fixtures in a row for their worst ever winless run in the Premier League since 2011 and have now slid further to the eighth position in the table.
