Liverpool Confirm Signing Red Bull Salzburg Takumi Minamino
It has been officially confirmed that Takumi Minamino has been signed to a contract with Liverpool from Red Bull Salzburg, that was denied qualifying for the knockout stages of the Champions League by the English side.
Takumi gained the attention of Jurgen Klopp for his performance in his former team's games against his squad in the Champions League. Alongside Erling Haaland, he was instrumental to a stunning comeback in their first tie which they lost eventually by 4-3 at Anfield. Red had Mo Salah to thank for scoring the winning goal after the Austrians had leveled the scores.
Speaking on his signing, the Japanese midfielder admitted it was an exciting moment for him to see his life long "dream" of playing for Liverpool come true. It is noteworthy that he left the Austrian side he joined for less than £1 million with a release clause of £7.25million.
"To play in the Premier League was one of my targets," he was quoted as saying on Liverpool website. "I think this is the to-class league in the world; I was thinking if my career as a footballer progressed smoothly, someday I would be able to play in the Premier League."
In the same vein, his teammate Erling Haaland is also heading to the Premier League with a link to Manchester United with a price tag in the north of £70 million. The speculation is that the teenager would complete the move by January window transfer.
