Jurgen Klopp Signs New Five-year Contract With Liverpool
Jurgen Klopp has committed more years to Liverpool and signed to a new five-year contract that will keep him at Anfield until 2024 at the club.
The German, 52, ended his trophy-drought at the club he joined from Borussia Dortmund in 2015 last season by winning the Champions League title that was the club's first since 2004/05 and added to the streak the UEFA Super Cup by outclassing Chelsea on penalties by 2-2 (5-4).
"For me personally, this is a statement of intent," he said on signing the new deal. "One which is built on my knowledge of what we as a partnership have achieved so far and what is still there for us to achieve."
Liverpool are in the current season, coasting to lifting their first Premier League title as they lead the table with 46 points and eight points clear their closest rivals Leicester City. They were near clinching the title last season but lost by a whisker to Manchester City who won by a point clear.
Jurgen explained further that his desire to commit more years to the club is based on the mutual understanding between him and the club executive otherwise he "would not be resigning" to stay for more years.
He added, "This club is in such a good place, I couldn't contemplate leaving. For anyone in football who inspires to compete in an environment where every element of the organization is at its very best."
In defense of the Champions League title, Liverpool reached the knockout stages by beating Red Bull Salzburg 2-0 and finished atop Group E. Having qualified, Klopp reportedly has on his signing wishlist in the January transfer window, two key players, Erling Haaland, and Takumi Minamino, from the Austrian side.
