Joshua Cheptegi Sets New 10km Road World Record In Valencia
Ugandan Athletic ace, Joshua Cheptegi, has emerged as the new 10km road world record holder breaking the previous record that had been for nine years by six seconds in Valencia.
Cheptegei, who won the title for 10km world champion in Doha in October, broke the record set by Kenyan athlete Leonard Komon with a new time set for 26 minutes 38 seconds that brings his pace to doing two minutes 40 seconds per kilometer.
The 23-year-old admitted he could not believe it becoming the new champion setting a new record and added, "I knew that Valencia was going t be a really fast course, one of the fastest in the world. So to achieve what we came here for is something really special."
He finished the year with a treble having won the 10km title Denmark cross country race in March. Next year, he will contend with 10km Olympic gold medal defender Mo Farah at the 2020 Toyko Olympics.
