Erling Haaland Snubs Manchester United, Juventus To Join Borussia Dortmund

Manchester United may have just missed out big time on signing former Red Bull Salzburg player Erling Haaland who previously strongly linked to the club as he has reportedly changed interest to joining the German side Borussia Dortmund.

Haaland is the Austrian side's leading striker with 28 goals in 22 appearances in all competition this season, that earned him the interest of United's chief executive Ed Wood for signing but the 19-year-old has kept his options open with links coming from Borussia Dortmund and Juventus.

After agreeing verbally with Juventus on a deal term of £6.8 million, the Norwegian striker switched interest and signed to a deal until June 2024 and a release clause of £18million with the Bundesliga side on Sunday.

Just like Haaland, his former teammate Takumi Minamino left the Austrian to join the Premier League side, Liverpool, after his release clause of £7.25 million was triggered.

Announcing the teenager's move to Borussia, the club's CEO, Hans-Joachim Watzke said in a statement, "Despite many offers from absolute top clubs all over Europe, Erling Haaland decided on the sporting task at BVB and the perspective that we have shown him. Our tenacity has paid off."

Before Christmas, the forward was speculated to have boarded a flight with his father departing Norway for Manchester and United manager Ole Gunnar Solksjaer was asked if he is aware that the teenager is heading to the club, he quickly dismissed having any knowledge of his trip.

Solksjaer clarified saying, "I don't think he's en route here, to be fair, not through me anyway. You know I can't comment on other teams players, I've said that many times and that's just one of those things in this job you get speculation a lot of the time."
