Cristiano Ronaldo Wins Italian Serie A Player of the Year
On the same night that Lionel Messi won record sixth Ballon d'Or, Cristiano Ronaldo received Italian Serie A Player of the Year Award.
Until last night, Messi and Ronaldo tied with five on Ballon d'Or but the Argentine moved ahead having won most vote to emerge as the award winner as the Juventus striker came third behind Liverpool defender Virgil van Dijk.
Just like he knew the award would not be his, Ronaldo was absent at the in Paris but was in Milan to receive the Italian player of the year award for the first time after his debut season at Juventus.
"I hope I have more years to enjoy, although I am aware of how old I am," said Messi who was presented the trophy by former Chelsea forward Didier Drogba. "Everything happens very quickly and I know that the moment of withdrawal (retirement) is approaching."
Ronaldo won the 2018/19 Italian Serie A title with Juventus and scored 28 goals in all competitions but the Argentine was tipped for Ballon d'Or for being the arrowhead in Barcelona that led the team to win La Liga last season with a goal tally of 51 in all competitions.
