Carlos Ancelotti Agrees In Principle To Deal With Everton
Carlos Ancelotti has agreed in principle to a contract with Everton to become their new manager after former head coach Marcos Silva was sacked early in December.
The former Napoli manager is understood to have met with the club on his arrival in Merseyside on Monday and his appointment as the new head coach is expected to be announced this week according to Sky Sports.
Ancelotti was sacked at Napoli after leading the team to ten consecutive winless games and was replaced by Gennaro Gattuso. There were speculations that the Italian was on Arsenal's wishlist to take over the management role from ousted Unai Emery, but that began to take new turns when it was revealed Arsenal would prefer one of its former players like Mikel Arteta for the role.
Everton, since Silva was dismissed, has been managed temporarily by his assistant Duncan Ferguson as the interim manager and has been unbeaten in two previous league games played - Toffees beat Chelsea 3-1 and rescued a point from Manchester United at Old Trafford in a 1-1 draw game on Sunday.
Football management in the Premier League is not new to the 60-year-old who the league title and FA Cup in 2009/10 at Chelsea. He left Blues to join Real Madrid where he won the Champions League title (2013/14) which he had won two times for AC Milan (2002/03 and 2006/07).
