Arsenal Unveil Mikel Arteta As New Manager

Mikel Arteta is back to his former club, Arsenal, and this time as the manager to replace former head coach Unai Emery who was sacked in November - Arsenal signed its former midfielder to a three-and-a-half contract on Friday.

The Spaniard has been working under Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola as the assistance for three seasons during which they won the Premier League title back-to-back (2017/18, 2018/19). Arteta's move was completed after Arsenal reach an agreement with City for him to be replaced.

"We all know there is a lot of work to be done," he said acknowledging that the team have drifted away from top four by nine points to be in the 10th position.

Since Unai was fired, Freddie Ljungberg has been managing the team as the interim manager and he is expected to retain his place in the team when Arteta assume duty as the new head coach on Sunday.

He added, "I'm realistic enough to know it won't happen overnight  but the current squad has plenty of talent and there is a great pipeline of young players coming through from the academy."

In the Spaniards first spell at the club as a player from Everton, he won two FA Cup (2013/14, 2014/15) and two Community  Shield (2014, 2015) with team under former head coach Arsene Wenger.
