Stormzy Rejected Doing Collaboration With Jay-Z
Getting to do a collaboration with Jay-Z for any youngster in the music industry is a dream come true so it is with Stormzy, yet he turned down a request to do have him on one of his songs.
Jay-Z was meant to feature on Ed Sheeran's 'Take Me Back To London' that was released late in August, but the grimmer felt it would not be right and that it was not just the right time for him to collaborate with the iconic rapper despite being his mentor in the industry.
During an interview on The Jonathan Ross Show, Stormzy explained that he meant not to be arrogant neither did Jay-Z take being declined personal when Sheeran suggested that the US rapper should do a verse on the single.
"I was like, 'If you didn't ask me this, I would have just written my verse and we would have done it and I would have never questioned it," he replied in a long conversation with Jay-Z and Sheeran.
Stormzy is currently working on his second studio album 'Heavy is the Head' set for release on 13 December. It should not be expected that the '99 Problems' rapper will be on the track since he does not think it is time for them to collaborate.
He goes on to explain his reasons for saying no to the Roc Nation mogul, "I know how it goes, Mr. Z. You are the most brilliant, busy man and I will probably never get this opportunity ever again but hand on my heart, I don't think this is the right song for us. I don't know why I'm saying this to you but this not the song."
The 'Cigarettes and Cush' grimmer headlined this year's Glastonbury Festival and made history as the first black British artist ever to do so at the concert.
