Premier League: Van Dijk Leads 10-Man Liverpool To Beat Brighton

Liverpool race on in table lead with 11 points clear closest rivals having defeated Bournemouth 2-1 at Anfield with Virgil van Dijk scoring a double.

Reds played one man down for the last 14 minutes after Allison Beck was red-carded and Cherries who had wasted two glaring chances from Luiz Dunk before he finally did by converted a penalty conceded by Allison for which he was sent off the pitch.

Both goals scored by van Dijk were as a result of a brilliant cross from Trent Alexander-Arnold that found him twice in the box for a header that beat Matthew Ryan to the goal twice in the first half. The margin could have been wider but Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain's missed the goal and went wide.

Virgil van Dijk scores his third goal of the season with a double in Liverpool's 2-1 win over Bournemouth

Jurgen Klopp believed the game should not have been  "nervy" at the end considering the chances Reds failed to convert but for Cherries' goalkeeper who made some "good saves".

He added, "It was difficult this game because Brighton are a good football side. They had a lot of possession and we had to work really hard."

Reds have now extended home unbeaten runs to 31 games in a row and lead the table with 40 points as the race ahead to ending their league title-drought that has lasted since 1989/90.
