Premier League: Liverpool Seize Late Scoring Chances To Beat Aston Villa
Liverpool retained table dominance with a stunning recovery from a goal down to Aston Villa and scored two late goals to outclass the hosts by 1-2.
A defeat could have been expensive for Reds and could have narrowed the margin them and Manchester City but Sadio Mane saved the side from inspiring an equalizer and completed the comeback with a header from Trent Alexander-Arnold.
Reds would not have had to struggle until late before getting their first goal had the VAR not rule out Roberto Firmino's equalizer after Villa's Trezeguet had opened the scoring in the 21st minutes following a free-kick from John McGinn.
With three minutes left to play, Mane produced a cross that located Robertson for a header that leveled the scoring and Firmino found the Senegalese in the box with a cross for the winning goal in the injury time. The victory restored Liverpool's position in the table and extended their unbeaten run to 27 league game run.
"I don't always believe we can win every game but I never give up," Jurgen Klopp said afterward. "So when we scored the equalizer I thought, 'that's what we deserve."
Liverpool are on their second-longest unbeaten run in top-flight history since 1987-88 as the continue to bid for their first league title since 1989/90.
