Premier League: Newcastle's Jonjo Shelvey's Late Goal Dents Manchester City's Title Race


It is what it is with Manchester City after dropping two points in a 2-2 draw with Newcastle United following a late equalizer from Jonjo Shelvey.

Being defeat further put City's title defense in jeopardy as Liverpool race ahead with 37 points that leaves both teams to trail by seven points margin.

However, Magpies only had few shots at the target as against City who dominated the game and held off from getting a goal from Raheem Sterling's attempt from close range in the added time.

David Silva worked out the opener with Sterling who smacked the ball in to put City in the lead and Magpies responded with an equalizer in minutes with Jetro Willem finishing Miguel Almiron's pass from inside the box.

Kevin de Bruyne had put City ahead after the break for a 2-1 before they slid back to level but it was a well take a long-range shot from Shelvey following a free-kick pass from Christian Atsu.

As it does not as Liverpool are going to concede a game any time soon and are already in the lead in a home game against Brighton, City potential is going to trail them by an 11-point margin, allowing Red to race on to their first Premier League title in almost 40 years.

Sterling's goal extended his tally since the season commenced to 15 and that made him the highest goalscorer in all competitions in the Premier League.
