Nitto ATP Finals: Stefanos Tsitsipas Knocks Roger Federer Out In Semi-finals


Roger Federer joined other members of the Big Three - Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal - in the elimination list after losing to Stefanos Tsitsipas in the semi-finals.

All skills Federer engaged in the match was met with a strong brick wall from Stefanos and could only concede to the Greek who saved 11 breakpoint advantages faced against the six-time champion to seal victory in straight sets, 6-3,6-4.

"Wow, Jesus. I'm so proud of myself today. Great performance and once again, people were great," Stefanos said. "It's really like a mental struggle. So I'm really proud that I managed to save so many breakpoints today."

Federer had six break point advantages in the first set alone but the 21-year-old denied him all whilst he converted 3-4 breaks he had throughout the match. He Improved to 2-2 in ATP FedEx head-to-head series against the world number three.

Right from the opener, Stefanos had shown stronger hands than the Swiss, taking an earlier break 4-1 and was held to deuce marathon at 5-3 before winning a needed set point on Federer netting a backhand return to his serve.

He added, "Well, it's not easy to copy Federer. This guy does magic on the court so for me. I'm trying to do half of what he does. He can be so good sometimes! You know, obviously, we have different game styles."

The Swiss committed 11 unforced errors alone in the second set against the athletic Greek player who claimed a break at 5-3 and served an ace to wrap the victory.

"I thought I played some consistent, solid tennis," Federer said on his defeat and need to continue in good form. "Got to take care of my body, listen to the sign, work well with the team, get the balance right with everything that's happening in my life."
