Jay-Z Files Lawsuit Against Australian Book Retailer For Copyright Infringement
The accused company, Little Homie, is an online retailer who used lyrics from Jay-Z hit track '99 Problems' to persuade families to purchase her book with a cover page themed 'AB to Jay-Z'.
Little Homie reportedly was warned to desist from its deceptive method of hawking `its wares, yet the online website continued with the sale of the book that used a line from the track to encourage pupils to have interest in learning. All these indulgences are without the approval of the rapper or his record label, Roc Nation.
In the book, there is a page that reads, "If you're having alphabet problems, I feel bad for you son, I've got 99 problems but my ABCs ain't one."
The above sentence is a direct infringement on the rapper's intellectual property and a twist of the lyrics he sang as, "If you having girls problems I feel bad for you son, I got 99 problems but a bitch ain't one."
Despite it being an attempt to encourage kids to devout time to learning, there were no approvals of its use and it is understood Jay-Z and his legal team have filed a lawsuit against Little Homie at an Australian Federal Court.
