Bayern Munich Remove Niko Kovac As Club Manager, Appoint Han Flick On Interim Basis
Niko Kovac may have just reached the end of his reign at Bayern Munich as the club has parted way with him following the team's massive 5-1 defeat to Eintracht Frankfurt on Saturday.
In a statement released by the club C.E.O, Karl-Heinz Rummenigge, their performance in recent weeks has been unacceptable and has discussed the management's position on the situation with Kovac, whom they have removed as the team's head coach.
"The performance of our team in recent weeks and the results have shown us that there was a need for action," Rummenigge said. "We had an open and serious discussion with Niko this Sunday."
Bayern, the league defending champions, have only lost two league matches in 10 games and are fourth in the Bundesliga table. However, Borussia Monchengladbach lead the table with four points clear Bayern.
The statement went on to reveal that they came to a "mutual decision" which was reached with the 48-year-old and the outcome of their meeting was that he is "no longer head coach of FC Bayern".
Kovac only lasted for 16 months at the club and led them to win the league title last season. He has been replaced by his assistant Han Flick as an interim manager.
