Arsene Wenger Still Strongly Linked To Bayern Munich As Potential Replacement For Niko Kovac

Arsene Wenger is still in the race for a managerial role at Bayern Munich and apparently will be discussing with the club's top executives by next week.

It was speculated that the club had dropped interest in the former Arsenal manager after a phone conversation with its CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge but the 70-year-old maintained that his links with the club remain in-tact.

Niko Kovac's dismissal was announced on Sunday after Bayern lost 5-1 to Einhtract Frankfurt, which was their seventh away defeat in all competitions. He was replaced by his assistant Han Flick as the interim manager.

Explaining how he contacted Karl-Heinz, Wenger told beIN Sports that it was the club executive who called him first but he was not available to pick the call. Only returning the call, Karl-Heinz "was in his car going to the game against Olympiacos."

Arsene confirmed he had a conversation with Karl-Heinz that lasted for "four to five minutes maximum" and went on to say, "He asked me if I would be interested because they are looking for a coach. I told him I haven't thought about it, I need some time to have a think about it."

The Frechman has taken time to relax from football since he stepped down from his role at Arsenal in 2018. During his 22-year reign, he won 17 silverware at the club which includes three Premier League titles.

"We decided together we will talk next week because I am in Doha until Sunday night. This is the true story" he added. "For myself, I wish good luck to Bayern and for me the situation is clear."
