Arsene Wenger Returns To Football Management

Arsene Wenger is back to football management and not at club level but much higher than that as Fifa appointed him as its chief of global football development.

Wenger had hoped to join Bayern Munich as the potential replacement for ousted manager Niko Kovac who was sacked after the team was beaten 5-0 by Eintracht Frankfurt. He had talked about having a phone conversation with the club's chief executive, Karl-Heinz Rummenigge, with an expectation of following through to secure the job.

"I very much look forward to taking on this extremely important challenge," Wenger said on his new job. "I have always been interested in analyzing football from a broader perspective."

The 70-year-old last job was at Arsenal where won 17 silverware which included three league titles in a reign that lasted for 22 years before stepping down to be replaced by Unia Emery after completing the 2017/2018 season.

On the new job, the Frenchman hopes his contributions will help improve the sport just as the governing body has in its mission to "develop the game in its many different components."
