Arsenal Sack Unai Emery, Appoint Freddie Ljungberg As Interim Head Coach
Arsenal manager Unai Emery has been sacked by the club following an unimpressive performance of the team.
Despite an effort to gain the support of the club's fans by urging them to "connect to him" on Wednesday, he led the team to their seventh winless runs a day after, losing 1-2 to Eintracht Frankfurt at Emirates Stadium in the group stage match of the Europa League.
Announcing the dismissal of the Spaniard, Josh Kroenke, a representative of the club's owners Kroenke Sports and Entertainment, explained that the club's decision was based on the team's "results and performances" which so far have been below expectations.
"The decision has been taken due to results and performances not being at the level required," said Kroenke in a statement.
Emery was appointed as former manager Arsene Wenger's replacement in 2018. He led to team to finish as Europa League runners-up last season.
Josh also added that Freddie Ljungberg will succeed Emery for the time being as an interim head coach whilst the club continues with the search for a new manager to take the role up from the ousted head coach.
"We have asked Freddie Ljungberg to take responsibility for the first team as interim head coach. We have full confidence in Freddie to take us forward.
"The search for a new head coach is underway and we will make a further announcement when that process is complete."
