World Athletics Championships: Katarina Johnson Wins Heptathlon Gold Medal


Katarina Johnson-Thompson has won her first global outdoor medal after emerging as the winner of the heptathlon for Britain's second gold medal at the World Athletics Championships in Doha.

The 26-year-old claimed 6,981 points for a new British record to outclass former world champion Nafissatou Thiam (Belgium) who scored 304 points lesser to win the silver medal (6,77 points) and Austrian Verena Preiner took the bronze with 6,560 points.

This is the result of so many attempts of trying to perform on this stage," she said. "The low moments have helped me come back and look at myself. This has been my dream."

Britain has won three medals so far in this championship, first was with Dina-Asher 200m and then in 100m before Katarina won her first career medal in a global event.

She added expressing her desire for more medal, "It has been such a long road. I am just happy that I'm coming into my best in these two big years. I just want more."
