Swiss Indoors (Basel): Roger Federer Beats Alex de Minaur To Win Historic Tenth Title
Roger Federer has emerged as the Swiss Indoors champion for a record-setting tenth time after swiftly taking down Australia's Alex de Minaur in the final.
The Swiss gave to chance of causing a scare to the Alex, whom he comfortably outlasted in straight sets, 6-2, 6-2 without facing any break points advantage.
"I was great on the offence," the world no. 3 said. "Made very few unforced errors and came up with the big shots and served well when I had to."
Federer took an early break for a 3-1 lead with an overhead smash and breezed through to wrap up the opener in 35 minutes. Minaur was no better off in the decider as he had trailed 4-1 en route the losing by hitting wide a forehand.
Aside from Stan Wawrinka retiring from the quarter-final, the 38-year-old played through the tournament with dropping a set and extended his title win this season to four ATP title to bring his career ATP singles title winning streak to 103.
He added, "I though Alex played a great tournament as well, and I think we both can be very happy. But what a moment for me to win my 10th here in my hometown of Basel."
