Simone Biles Becomes Most Decorated Gymnast Winning 25th Medal In Stuttgart
Simone Biles extended her medal dominance in gymnastics to all-time highest of 25 to become the most decorated gymnast in history at the Gymnastics World Championship in Stuttgart, Germany.
After equalling the previous record by Vitaly Scherbo set for all-time highest of 23 medals by winning a medal in vault with an average score of 15.399 points on Saturday, she proceeded for yet a record-breaking feat by defending her floor titles to increase her medal tally to 25.
Despite bagging a 0.1 penalty for stepping of bounds on the first in double layout, she had put in enough effort to earn the winning score of 15.133 points for a one-two win with Sunisa Lee with a score of 14.133 points.
The tally could have been higher but failed to get a medal in uneven bars and finished fifth behind Belgian Nina Derweal who picked up the gold medal with 15.233 points and Great Britain's Becky Downie got a silver medal.
"I'm excited about my performances I put out today. obviously did my own [uneven] bar by going in for a chance that I can medal," she said. "I just want to hear a good routine and I did. So, I'm proud of the performances."
The 22-year-old is a four-time Olympic medallist and has a record of 19 gold medals from four championships and that surpasses that of Scherbo (12) by 7 gold medals.
