Shanghai Masters: Roger Federer Battles Against David Goffin To Reach Quarter-finals

Roger Federer and David Goffin were meeting for the third time this season in Shanghai but he did not find getting a victory in the third round easy against the 28-year-old.

Goffin started off fiercely against the world no. 3 and held on through a tiebreak but lost five set points to the Swiss to win the set and he progressed to outclass him in straight sets, 7-6(7), 6-4. 

Two-time champion, Federer, who had only lost once to the Belgian in eleven career meetings saved two-in-three breakpoint advantages and served eight aces en route the victory to reach his 87th quarter-finals in Masters 1000.

Shanghai is the third tournament where the pair will be meeting this season - Halle Open and US Open - and the Swiss remained unbeaten in all without losing a set.

Alexander Zevrev who defeated Russian player Audrey Rublev in straight sets, 6-0, 7-6(4) will face Federer in the quarter-finals in the seventh career meetings with the Swiss.
