Shanghai Masters: Andy Murray Beats Juan Londero In Opening Round

Andy Murray shrugged off an early scare from Juan Ignacio Londero and recovered from a set down to outclass the Greek player in three sets, 3-6, 6-2, 6-3 in the opening match.

The former world no. 1 had been battling with a hip injury that devastated his performance which plummeted badly to 250th, but is now on the path to regaining his top form having reached the quarter-finals of the China Open - he was knocked out in straight sets by the tournament's reigning champion, Dominic Thiem.

However, Murray was put to a tough test by Ignacio who broke back after losing the first game to the Briton and converted two breakpoints chances en route claiming the opening set.

Murray got fired up in the second and had picked up a 4-1 lead before the Greek man saved a breakpoint to trim down the lead but dropped straight five games to the Scot as rallied strongly to win the match on their first career meeting.

The three-time champion, 32, last featured in the tournament in 2016 before an injury spell took its toll on him, was offered a wildcard entry for the event. He admitted to a bit of rustiness but only that he "got better as the match went on" against the Greek man.

He will face in the second round match Italian veteran Fabio Fognini. It will be the pair's first ATP FedEx meeting since Wimbledon 2017 - could not defend the title he won in 2016 losing in the quarter-finals to American player Sam Querrey.
