Roger Federer Cancels Playing In Inaugural ATP Cup In January
Roger Federer is going to have a long break after the ATP Finals as he announced his withdrawal from the inaugural ATP Cup in January citing "family" matters for his reason.
The Swiss just pulled out of the on-going Rolex Paris Open on Monday after winning the nSwiss Indoors on Sunday for a historic tenth title in his hometown Basel.
"It pains me to not be a part of the most exciting new event on the calendar," said the 20-time Grand Slam champion. "This is the right thing to do if I want to continue to play for a longer period of time on the ATP Tour."
Technically, Switzerland is out of the 24-team event since Federer who was meant to represent the country has pulled out. On the other hand, Andy Murray will be representing Great Britain at the tournament.
The 38-year-old went ton to say, "I have decided that the extra two weeks at home will be beneficial for both my family and my tennis."
