Premier League: Brighton Thrash Tottenham By Huge Margin With Aaron Connolly Scoring Twice
Disaster struck Tottenham Hotspur on the road to Brighton Albion where they were humiliated and defeated by 3-0 for the second consecutive match loss by a huge margin.
Hotspurs' goalkeeper Hugo Lloris stretchered out following an injury from an attempt made to stop Neal Maupay from getting an opener for Brighton early into the game. Besides that, they barely found well enough shot at the target against the hosts.
Lloris was replaced by Paulo Gazzaniga but neither could that save them from conceding the second goal when Dan Burn launched a cross into the area only for Aaron Connolly to gain an advantage in the box and slice the ball into the net for Brighton's second goal.
Tottenham had a hopeless match that ended their unbeaten run against Brighton |
Connolly, who returned to the club in August after a loan spell at Luton Town FC in January, ran inside to receive a long pass from Lewis Dunk and brilliantly take out Alderweireld and struck a nice low right-footed shot from inside the box for the third goal.
That will the Millenial's, 19, first career goal for the side and his first two against Tottenham, who had their unbeaten run in four Premier League matches (L3, D1) snapped by Brighton.
"I can't really put it into words. It's a dream come true," says Connolly afterward. "I've been watching the Premier League since I was four or five, I watch Premier League Years all the time, and to be playing in it and scoring in it is indescribable."
Meanwhile, the London-based side made a late attempt to get a consolation goal from Lucas Ryan but his strike was stopped by Matthew Ryan.
Spurs suffered their worst defeat in recent times to Bayern Munich by 7-2 in the Champions League on Tuesday. Apparently, they are yet to recover from the disappointing loss which ushered in their first defeat to Seagulls since 1983.
