Naomi Osaka Chooses To Represent Japan In 2020 Tokyo Olympics
Naomi Osaka has made a career decision to represent Japan in the 2020 Toyko Olympics and she reportedly is working towards securing the country's citizenship.
The two-time Grand Slam champion whose father is from Haiti and mother from Japan is also eligible to represent the United States of American where she resides. Nevertheless, she has been representing her maternal native country since her career began.
She rose to fame when she defeated Serena Williams to win the US Open in 2018 for her career first Grand Slam title and became the first Japanese player ever to reach the feat in the history of tennis. She doubled the feat at Australian Open in January when she defeated Petra Kvitova in three sets, 7-6, 5-7, 6-4.
The Haiti-native by paternity is ranked no. 3 in the world and resides in Florida, with dual nationality with Japan and the United States. She is qualified to bare dual nationality on her passport at her age, 22, as stipulated in Japanese law.
In addition to the Japanese profile was winning the China Open in a fightback from a set down to win over Ashleigh Barty in three sets, 3-6, 6-3, 6-2 to become the first player from the Asian Pacific country ever to win the title.
