Mesut Ozil Wants To Stay At Arsenal Until Contract Runs Out
The attacking midfielder has been plagued by illness and has only featured in one league game with the team. There are speculations that he might be using his health as an excuse to dodge making an appearance by the club's fans who would accept his condition as enough reason to miss matches.
Making excuses with illness might not be true with the German as he confessed to The Athletic that he found it "helpless" watching their games from home and also expressed his commitment to the club that he wants to stay at Emirates at least "until the summer of 2021" which is when his contract ends.
"When I signed the new deal, I thought about it very carefully and said it was one of the most important decisions of my footballing career," he said.
"I wanted to commit my future to Arsenal and the club wanted me to do the same. You can go through difficult times, like this, but that is no reason to run away and I'm not going to. I'm here until at least 2021."
In spite of the absence, Arsenal manager Unai Emery has not lost hope in the former Real Madrid player and believes he would overcome his challenges and return to the team in good shape and form.
Speaking to Sky Sports, Emery believes having the German is strategic stating that, "He is more a possibility in the squad now to play and to help us."
Since losing 3-1 to Liverpool, Arsenal have remained unbeaten in five league matches (W2 D3 L0) and are third in the table with 15 points, trailing the table leaders, Liverpool, by nine points. They will travel to Sheffield United in their next Premier League match on Monday.
