Champions League: Juventus Take Group Lead After Big Win Over Bayer Leverkusen
Juventus claimed a big 3-0 win over Bayer Leverkusen in the second match of the Champion League to top Group D with points tied with Atletico Madrid.
The lead could have been much wider but Cristiano Ronaldo could not convert chances had against the German Bundesliga side which failed to register a shot at the target through the stretch of the game and are at the bottom of the table with no points.
Ronaldo later got a goal in with a superb finish from inside the box with two minutes remaining to play but Gonzalo Higuain and Federico Bernardeschi had put the side in the lead by two goals.
Gonzalo capitalized on a defensive mistake from Jonathan Tah and lashed in the opener just before 20 minutes of play and the second goal did not go until after the break when Gonzalo let a through pass to Federico to slam into the net just in an hour of play.
After Ronaldo had failed to get the ball in especially that created for him by Gonzalo, the Portuguese eventually succeeded but wasted no time to prove his scoring skills are still intact by lashing the ball to give Juventus the third goal.
