Japan Open: Novak Djokovic Wins Title On Tournament Debut
Novak Djokovic kept a clean sheet through the tournament without dropping a set on his debut to emerge as the champion for his fourth title of the season with a straight-set win over John Millman.
Millman was considerably overpowered by the world no. 1 who gave him no chance for a breakpoint whilst he breezed through winning three to claim both sets by 6-3, 6-2.
It was a true show of class for Djokovic by the way he thrashed the Australian, taking early breaks in both sets and could not be stopped by the 30-year-old who leveled up after dropping the first game only to be routed by through.
"He had a great tournament. Considering he was close to losing in the first round of the qualies, to get this far, I think he'll take it. He's a great fighter," Djokovic said afterward.
Djokovic was ruthless in the decider picking up four straight games before he could win one but would net a backhand return to lose out in three ATP FedEx meetings with the Serb.
"In the second set, I stepped it up, started swinging through the ball even better than the first set," he added admitting, "Overall, it was a great tournament for him"
The reigning champion, Djokovic, earned 500ATP points from the victory plus prize money of $391,430 whilst Millman got 250 ATP points as the tournament runner-up.
