European Open: Andy Murray Advances To Quarter-finals

Andy Murray breezed through round 16 match against Uruguayan player and eighth seed Pablo Cuevas by claiming the victory in straight sets, 6-4, 6-3.

Murray is making a strong effort to end his title drought that has lasted through his injury spell, recovery from hip resurfacing surgery and return to the court after regaining form.

He did not last in Shanghai Open, but for the first time since Wimbledon 2017, he reached featured in a quarter-final match in China Open and defeated by Dominic Thiem in straight sets, 2-6, 6-7(3).

"I thought I served quite well for most of the match," Murray said afterward. "When I was able to get into the baseline rallies, I felt I was hitting the ball quite clean, which is good."

Cuevas equaled with the Scot in the first serve win - they shared 79 percent apiece - but could not convert all four breakpoints advantages he had against the two-time Wimbledon champion.

The former world no. 1 will face in the last eight - which is his second this season - Romanian player Marius Copil on Friday.
